The Story Behind Strata

The name Strata came before almost everything else.
Before the website, before the logo, before the details of building a practice, there was a simple idea that kept returning: people are layered.
In nature, strata are the layers found in the earth. Each layer reflects a different point in time. Some are visible. Others remain hidden beneath the surface. Together, they tell a story of where something has been and how it became what it is today.
People are much the same way.
No one arrives in therapy as a blank slate or with a single problem to solve. Every person carries a collection of experiences, relationships, losses, strengths, beliefs, and adaptations that have been built over a lifetime. Some of those layers are easy to recognize. Others are less obvious, quietly shaping the way a person relates to themselves, other people, and the world around them.
Therapy is often thought of as a place to find answers. In many ways, it is. But it can also be a place to become more curious.
Why does a certain relationship feel so familiar?
Why does the same pattern keep repeating?
Why is it possible to understand something logically and still feel stuck?
These questions rarely have simple answers. More often, they invite a deeper understanding of the layers underneath.
One of the privileges of this work is witnessing what happens when people are given the space to explore those layers without judgment. Over time, things begin to make sense. Connections emerge. Old assumptions soften. New possibilities appear.
Sometimes that process happens through traditional psychotherapy. Sometimes it involves approaches such as EMDR therapy or ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. More often than not, it begins with a conversation and a willingness to look honestly at what has brought someone to this point in their life.
There is no perfect formula for healing, and there is no single approach that works for everyone.
What helps one person move forward may not be what helps the next. That is why treatment at Strata Wellness Collective is intended to be thoughtful, personalized, and collaborative rather than prescriptive.
The name Strata serves as a reminder of something that is easy to forget when life feels difficult: people are more than the symptoms they experience or the challenges they face. Every person has depth. Every person has a history. Every person has a story that deserves to be understood in its full context.
Real change rarely happens overnight.
More often, it happens layer by layer.
And while the process may not always be easy, there is something hopeful about that. Growth does not require becoming someone new. Sometimes it begins with understanding ourselves more fully than we ever have before.
Because every story has layers.
